Email Setup & Access

There are two ways you can retrieve your seminary email; one way is through the online webmail interface at mail.kenrick.edu; the other way is through a POP email client, such as Outlook for the PC or Mail for the Mac.

Email Username and Password

For every user on the Kenrick email system, the username is made up of the first letter of the person's first name followed by the person's last name (e.g. 'John Doe' = 'jdoe@kenrick.edu'). The password is made up of the first letter of the first name + the first letter of the last name + the last four digits of your social security number (e.g. 'jd1234').

Accessing Webmail

You can access your email using a web browser from any Internet-connected computer, in or out of the Seminary building. For the best functionality, use a recent version of the Internet Explorer browser. Webmail does work with other browsers such as Firefox or Safari, but the functionality is more limited within the webmail interface when these browsers are used. To access webmail, follow these steps:

  1. Open up your web browser and go to http://www.kenrickparish.com
  2. Under the “Seminarians and Faculty” column click "Email."

  3. Enter your username in the following format kensem\username (see Figure 2).
  4. Enter your network password (See Figure 2).

  5. Click OK.
  6. You should then be presented with your e-mail (figure 3).

  7. When finished reading and sending email, click 'Log Off' and then close the web browser to finish your webmail session.

Setting up Your Email Client

You can use any standard POP email client with the Seminary's email system:

  1. Open your email program.
  2. Make a new account:
    1. Apple Mail: Click the 'Mail' menu, then 'Preferences...,' click on the 'Accounts' tab, and click the '+' icon in the lower left hand corner of the window to add a new acount.
    2. Microsoft Outlook: Instructions here...
  3. You will need the following information:
    • Email address: jdoe@kenrick.edu (replace jdoe with your username)
    • Full Name: John Doe (replace with your name)
    • Incoming Mail Server (or POP server): mail.kenrick.edu
    • Username: jdoe (replace jdoe with your username)
    • Password: jd1234 (replace with your password)
    • Outgoing Mail Server (or SMTP server): mail.kenrick.edu
    • Authentication: Password (using same information as above)
      • NOTE: If you are using Mac OS X Mail; after you've created the account, go back to Preferences, then click on 'Accounts,' and click on the account you just set up. Click on the 'Advanced' tab, and make sure the 'Port' is 110, and the 'Authentication' menu set to 'Password.'
